Michael has been with us at OSI training at mostly the 5:30am class for almost a year and a half! His dedication to fitness and OSI is apparent in everything he does. Because of this show of commitment he is being recognized as our spotlight member this week!! Congratulations Michael and keep doing you!
How did you hear about/what made you decide to try OSi? Tim has been a personal friend of mine for 4 years and I started working out with him at OSI.
What was your initial reaction to the OS form of movement/resets? Skeptical. Seemed too simple to be
effective.
Have you noticed anything in your everyday life that is easier to do or you are able to do better? Absolutely. Wrangling 3 kids, lifting heavy objects, balancing on one foot, better posture while sitting for work.
What changes in your body/life have you seen since
you started participating in OSI? I hurt my back in 2001 and have had problems/ consistent pain ever since. Since joining OSI, my lower back muscles are much stronger and my pain virtually gone. Doing daily resets help keep any pain at bay too. I definitely have more muscle definition in my whole back and arms, and just overall feel better. It’s much easier to get up early in the morning and I can still climb trees like a kid, jump really high walls like a ninja and hang with a 6 and 4 year old.
What is your proudest achievement and next big goal at OSI? Proudest achievement is running a Spartan Super, which was 11.1 miles in Asheville. All I did to prepare was 2 days a week at OSI for 2.5 months and nailed it. No I didn’t run at all on my own, and was still able to finish in the top 40%. I was literally passing and
out maneuvering dudes who were twice my size with these huge muscles. They couldn’t carry a bucket of gravel for more than 20 feet without having to put it down and rest. They couldn’t scale 12 foot walls or move across monkey bars without falling. But I didn’t. Not because I’m awesome. But because OSI has given me functional, practical, every day strength like a ninja. Next goal is the Spartan Beast, which is 13 miles on October 29 this year.
What is something you would say to your first week of OSI self to encourage them? Just because these movements and resets are super elementary and seem too simple doesn’t mean they don’t work. Think about how mobile you were as a kid. Now think about how your mobility is now. Are they different? Worse now that you’re older? It doesn’t have to be that way. Do these movements. Start at your own pace. Keep going and don’t pay attention to those around you. Give it a month, and you will tell a huge difference in your life. Being fit doesn’t mean having glamour muscles. It means being able to move and function with strength the way you were supposed to.
If you are interested in joining us at OSI we have a couple options including; one on one training, group training, and a $29 2 week trial. For more information about OSI or to register for classes, check out http://www.originalstrengthinstitute.com.
I always thought being active meant as long as you're out of your home doing something physical then it meant you were keeping in shape. But really, being active can take on any meaning depending on who you are. For me, I found my active lifestyle with CrossFit.
I had no idea what that word meant or what it entailed. And so I took it upon myself to try several different gyms, or boxes, as we call them. Most boxes out there offered a free first class. How great! Boy, what a roller coaster of disappointment. Yes, each time I was explained what the class would be doing. Yes, they challenged me mentally and physically. But that free first class always ended up with someone wanting my verbal and written confirmation that I would be choosing their box right here right now. No one wants to feel pressured into doing something they've never done before. That's exactly how I felt. And so, after a friend referred me to WildFire CrossFit, I thought, I'm really not sure. One more attempt to see if this is really what I wanted.
Bri Maynes Rack Positionv2First thing that comes to mind is I love WildFire CrossFit! My home away from home. I have felt the passion and desire from these amazing coaches since day one. They coach with determination and motivation. They make lasting impressions on all athletes. I have been challenged in such a positive way that I just can't get enough. I'm tested every day I set foot in that gym. There are no limits for me. The relationships I have with the coaches and my fellow athletes are not anything I could create anywhere else. When I am going my hardest during a workout and I hear my name and cheers for me to keep going I don't want to disappoint. I love that everyone at WildFire CrossFit is a team supporter and player. We push ourselves to the limit and it's okay. It's okay to set goals, reach them, and set new ones.
There are so many proud moments I have achieved at WildFire CrossFit. Too many to list but the list is never-ending. There is always room for improvement. Never did I think I could do double unders, kipping pull-ups, flip tires or a handstand hold. I love adding to my achievements and doing it in a place where I love the great community.
WildFire Crossfit is not just another gym. Not just another box. At WildFire CrossFit you are part of a community that wants you to be who you deserve to be and teaches you so much about yourself. Thank you Skip and Tiffany for being amazing and creating this Rockstar community. Fuel The Fire!!
I just finished a free week trial. I was EXTREMELY satisfied with how welcoming everyone was, and how I was given individual attention. Not once did I feel intimidated or out of place.
These guys are phenomenal! They show pure passion when they teach. They make sure nobody is left out. They not only teach effective fat-burning exercises, but the skills to keep the weight off. Those guys definitely deserve a plethora of accolades.
